The last time I had a weave was over 15 years ago. If I wanted a change of style I always just popped on a wig and was good to go. Short, long, curly – I had a wig for every occasion.
I have been natural for 21 years, as after having my daughter the density of my hair changed dramatically. I decided not to continue with relaxing, as it was just too thin. Coupled with the fact that hair loss runs within my family as we get older. I had met a few ladies whose hair looked natural but they confessed to me that they were wearing a wig. Charlotte Mensah’s name came up again so I decided to give the salon a visit.
Charlotte Mensah’s salon Hair Lounge was amazing! After a thorough shampoo she began with giving me a homemade Shea Moisture Conditioner, then added some shea to my hair before colouring it. My natural hair was then cornrowed and a net placed over it to protect it. The hair extension was then sewn onto the net. I chose not to blowdry the hair as I liked the natural look and asked Charlotte to loosely twist it to give a natural effect. I now blowdry or flat comb it for a straight effect. It is such a versatile hairstyle and is well worth the investment.
