TLCs (Two Long Cornrows)- super quick protective style

Try this super quick protective style this winter

Winter is well and truly here and that means one thing for our hair – protective styling.

We’ve been seeing them crop up over the last year or so but recently they’re everywhere! Celebs like TV personality Jamelia,  Black-ish actress Yara Sayeh Shahidi and model Chanel Iman have been rocking them especially over the last few weeks

We saw this old school style crop up everywhere at the very beginning of the year and now they’re back with a bang.

Wigs, weaves and single braids/plaits are great protective styling options and are all well and good – but they’re time consuming to install, (with the exception of wigs, obvs), expensive and they take a level of commitment.

So step in the Two Long Cornrows! Or what we like to call – TLCs (see what we did there)

Wigs, weaves and single braids/plaits are great protective styling options and are all well and good – but they’re expensive, and with the expectation of wigs, they’re time consuming to install and take a level of commitment.

We’ve been seeing them crop up over the last year or so but celebs like Jamelia, Yashia and Chanel Iman have been rocking them especially over the last few weeks

They’re not exactly a new trend, (remember certain media outlets tried crediting a certain reality TV family for their popularity by renaming them ‘boxer braids’). They’re called CORNROWS people!

We remember rocking them in primary school – but aren’t the best trends the retro ones (….. anyone?)

Great things about TLCs

  • They can be dressed up or dressed down and with proper care and night time routine, they can last a couple of weeks – maybe longer.
  • Add colour to make them rock
  • As this style starts to age and starts to fluff (especially with shorter hair), use gel and a silk scarf to keep them neat
  • They’re the perfect protective style for the winter months
  • For shorter hair, try doing a three or four cornrows
  • This style ideal for those couple of days before wash day when your hair isn’t quite as on point as usual.
  • Best on stretched natural hair – not filthy dirty, just not freshly washed
  • Best done on dry hair
