The 5 most Googled make-up questions – answered!

Celebrity makeup artist and COLLECTION ambassador Francesca Neill answers some of the most Googled makeup questions

1. How to contour
First map your face with the contour. I prefer a cream product as I find it creates a more natural contour when blended. I like to do a little bit of contour using the COLLECTION Precision Contouring Sticks (£3.99, Boots) to enhance the cheekbones as well as sculpting the chin, nose and forehead. These sticks are so easy to use as the cream matte formula is so blendable and their shape means you can be really precise with your placement of the product.

Trace the temples, hollow part of your cheek and jawline. Take a damp beauty blender and tap over the area of the contour colour, blending into your foundation. My top tip is just to remember to blend properly!

2. How to get rid of dark circles and under-eye bags
In terms of under-eye bags, eye masks are great for this as they provide targeted hydration to the under-eye area to help disguise them. Light reflecting concealers and under eye brighteners are great for under-eye bags as they attract light and bounce it off of the skin to diffuse and hide the dark circles. Lastly colour correcting is a great technique for dark circles, try applying orange shades to the under-eye area before applying your brightening under-eye concealer.

3. What does a primer do?
Primers are key when it comes to creating the perfect base – they smooth out any lines or pores, and they hold the foundation on a lot longer. Primers are really key, especially for people with oily skin, open pores and uneven skin tone. They stop you having to use too much makeup, leaving skin looking more fresh, light and natural. Primers also help with keeping makeup in place, meaning you don’t have to do as many touch ups. This helps it to look fresh for a lot longer.

4. How to do natural makeup
To achieve the natural glowy look, a radiant primer is a key buy as you can wear alone or under makeup. To achieve healthy glowing skin, I would say a dewy lighter foundation is key product, as well as a creamy highlighter. A lip and cheek multipurpose colour is fantastic for ease of use as cream products always look more natural on the skin. Cream bronzers like Chanel’s is a beautiful moussey bronze to give a natural glow.

5. How to do makeup for photos
Always have a great skincare regime, prep the skin with a great moisturiser. I love glowy skin in photos, so ease off on the powder, and pick up a cream highlighter and cream blusher. It makes skin appear more youthful and radiant. I’d only use powder to set the t-zone but keep everything else quite glowy and glossy. Use highlighter to enhance cheekbones as this looks great on camera. Contour for a great photo, as it adds structure to the face.

To make your eyes appear more open I would avoid using really dark colours on the eyes, as although this can look great, darker colours instantly close the eye up. By using lighter colours and highlighting the inner corner of the eye helps to make your eyes look brighter with the illusion of a more wide-eye look. A cream pencil can also effectively be used along the waterline of the eye which can help the eyes look a bit fresher, followed by curling your lashes with lash curlers to instantly lift the eye and layer the lashes with mascara to enhance the overall eye look

I would always go for a lip liner to create nice full lips, maybe a nude lip liner going slightly over the line to enhance what you have.
