Fellowship Awards Announces Afro Image Award As New Category

Fellowship for British Hairdressing launched the Afro Image Award for its annual Fellowship Awards. Any hairdressers who style afro-textured hair can enter

Fellowship for British Hairdressing are having their annual Fellowship Awards later this year. 2021 is the first time that they’ll present the Afro Image Award.

The Afro Image Award is open to hairdressers who style afro-textured hair. All entrants should send three professional photos shot in a studio setting. Due to pandemic-related disruptions, the images can be from your portfolio from any time.

To enter to win in this category, you need to upload three images and tag @fellowshiphair with hashtag #fellowshipafro21.

“Our industry is incredibly diverse and we wanted to recognise all hairdressers, all skills and talent, so introducing our Afro Image Award was a natural step to take in 2021,” says Ashleigh Hodges, Chancellor of the Fellowship For British Hairdressing. “There are some incredibly talented hairdressers who specialise in textured hair and are looking forward to seeing all the images entered on social media.”

The Afro Image Award will join some of the preexisting categories in the Fellowship Awards. This includes the Snapshot Award, Men’s Image Award and Colour Image Award.

Hairdressers are able to enter starting this month, up until Friday, 3 September. The finalists and winners will be announced at the annual Fellowship Awards in December.

Criteria for other categories

The Snapshot Image is now in its fourth year and is for any non-professional hair image – photos of salon work, show looks or any other creation produced outside of a photo studio. In light of the lockdowns and lack of opportunity to get creative in 2020, the Snapshot Image is open to any work from entrants’ back catalogues – as long as it’s not from a professional photoshoot, it can be entered. Tag @fellowshiphair on Instagram and use the hashtag #fellowshipsnapshot21.

The Men’s Image is a celebration of all things barbering and men’s hairdressing. It should be a professional image shot in a studio setting – due to 2020 restrictions, Men’s Image Award is open to any work from the entrants back catalogue. Upload three images to Instagram. Tag @fellowshiphair on Instagram and use the hashtag #fellowshipmens21.

The Colour Image invites entrants to be as bright and bold or natural and beautiful as they want to be. It should be a professional image shot in a studio setting – due to 2020 restrictions, Colour Image Award is open to any work from the entrants back catalogue. Upload three images to Instragram, Tag @fellowshiphair on Instagram and use the hashtag #fellowshipcolour21.
