Conscious Vibes, a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), established to inspire people to discover and embrace their true self have now announced the grand finale for the UK’s Natural Hair Pageant after having completed their recruiting process. This exclusive event is scheduled on 24th July 2016, at the Clayton Crown Hotel, Cricklewood. Starting from 5:30pm through 10.30pm the finale will feature 16 beautiful natural hair queens selected from across four cities in the United Kingdom: Birmingham, Bristol, London and Manchester.
The UK’s Ms. Natural Hair Pageant was launched officially in November 2015 at the House of Commons, courtesy of Dawn Butler; MP for Brent Central. In attendance were some of the sponsors, Chi Onwuraj, MP for Newcastle-upon-Tyne and several pageant contestants. The special event is designed to generate positive dialogues and images for both young and mature people in the UK, elevating the beauty of natural hair.
Angela Small (founder of Conscious Vibes) explains what the UK’s Ms. Natural Hair Pageant grand finale will feature: ‘This unique event is breaking away from the usual style of bequeathing a traditional sparkly crown to winners of natural pageants. Instead, the winner of the UK’s Ms Natural Hair Pageant will wear an African inspired crown, made from cowry shells, by Zayunu by Design; It is documented that long before our era, the cowry shell was known as an instrument of payment and a symbol of wealth and power throughout Africa.
‘We will also be breaking away from another traditional format for pageants… Contestants will not be coming out in swimwear, rather they will wear day and evening wear and their hair will represent both themes. In addition either one of the chosen outfits needs to be African inspired.’
