Cécred by Beyoncé is Finally Here: Everything You Need to Know About Queen B’s New Haircare Brand

Hold onto your hairbrushes, because Beyoncé is making waves once again, and this time, she’s delving into the realm of haircare with her latest venture: Cécred. Yes, after months of rumours, Queen Bey brought her magic touch to our tresses on 20th February, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Cécred approach: Hair is sacred.

It’s no secret that Beyoncé has a long-time love story with beauty and haircare. In May 2023, she shared a mysterious Instagram post teasing Cécred, and officially announced the brand launch on socials on 6th February 2024. In November 2023, she also launched Cé Noir, an oud-scented fragrance (and, in years past, has launched a roster of perfumes. Remember Heat and Pulse?).

Now, you might be wondering, what exactly is Cécred? The brand name is a play-on-words with the “cé” in Beyoncé and the word “Sacred”. A strong statement, especially when we know how important hair is for Black women and the Caribbean and African community:

“As a Black founder, it was important to me to concentrate on where I saw the greatest need for healthy haircare and to place scientific innovation and product performance above all else. My vision is to be an inclusive force of excellence in the haircare industry while celebrating hair rituals across global cultures and helping dispel hair myths and misconceptions on all sides.” – Beyoncé

Cécred’s ‘The Foundation Collection’: Science above all

Cécred isn’t just your average haircare brand – oh no. The 32-time Grammy winner invites you to transform your bathrooms into sacred spaces with The Foundation Collection. Consisting of eight products, made for all hair types, the aim is to focus on haircare and a healthy scalp, with a science-based approach, as stated in a press release:

(Cécred) conducted extensive clinical, salon, and lab testing, ignoring industry norms and only working with global labs that prioritise inclusive testing. (…) Beyoncé’s decades-long career shaped her expertise in maintaining hair health while navigating the colouring, high-tension styles, hair adhesive, sweat, and build-up generated by her life as a performer. Her experiences inspired Cécred to redefine keratin recovery science with its Bioactive Keratin Ferment: a patent-pending technology made from wool-derived keratin, honey, and lactobacillus ferment.

This is an interesting take from the brand, considering that there’s a growing list of unidentified or questionable ingredients used in Black women’s haircare, some of which are linked to an increased cancer risk.

What does the range consist of?

The Foundation Collection line kicks off with a bang of hair essentials designed to cleanse, condition, and revive your hair : A Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Scrub (£31), Hydrating Shampoo (£25), Moisturizing Deep Conditioner (£25), Reconstructing Treatment Mask (£31), Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual (£42), Ritual Shaking Vessel (£17), Moisture Sealing Lotion (£31), Nourishing Hair Oil (£36) and Hydrating Conditioner (coming soon). The Cécred line also features a ‘Super Fan’ bundle for £213.

And let’s not forget about the scent. Oh, the scent! Leave it to Beyoncé to create an Oud fragrance that’s practically irresistible. With notes of confidence, empowerment, and a hint of sass, Cécred will have you turning heads wherever you go.

Among the products and brand story categories, Cécred’s website offers customers to take a quizz to help them identify the most suitable products according to their hair type. Here, there’s no “2A” or “4C” categories, but straight, curls, wavy, zig-zag coiled hair, and more.

Cécred’s giveback with BeyGOOD’

In a bid to back badass business ventures and give props to the savvy stylists ruling the hair game, Cécred teamed up with Beyoncé’s do-gooder hub, BeyGOOD, to create the BeyGOOD x Cécred Fund. This new partnership boasting a cool $500,000 USD (£395,900) per annum, is set to bankroll scholarships for budding cosmetologists and dish out grants to salon bosses.
