Start with a clean canvas
The smoother and cleaner the skin is the better the finish. Bobbi Brown’s Buffing Grains can be mixed with any Bobbi Brown cleanser or water to create a customised, gentle exfoliator for the face. DHC Face Wash Powder contains liquorice and honey to soften and moisturise your skin. The Christian Breton Crème Exfoliante is also worth a try because it’s packed full of small exfoliating grains which eliminate impurities and dead cells.
Prime and prep
Primers are beneficial for a number of reasons. It helps to smoothen the skin and holds make-up, in particular foundation, in place for longer. GOSH Overnight Primer Oil Essence reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while you sleep. Oily skin will benefit from a mattifying primer such as Kiko Milano Matte Face Base. The formula contains absorbent powders to give your skin a movie star soft-focus effect and conceals skin imperfections and shiny areas. The Pür HydraGel Lift also helps to moisturise the delicate area around your eyes and sets eyeshadows.
Finish and set
Think of this final step as equivalent to ‘setting’ your hair after it’s been washed and conditioned. Powders act as a seal for foundation and will keep your make-up intact. MAC Prep+Prime Transparent Finishing Powder sets your foundation and can be used to enhance bare skin too. If your skin has a tendency to shine, try Sacha Buttercup Powder which is a loose powder that eliminates shine and sets make-up in one swipe, leaving you with a radiant but matte finish. The GOSH Velvet Touch Primer & Setting Powder is great for picture close-ups as it minimises fine lines and imperfections.
